Newsflash:
Statutory meeting of the Abidjan Corridor Organization Steering Committee - Lagos

In accordance with the operating rules, the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Organization is holding its annual statutory meeting on November 9 and 10, 2017.

The meeting takes place this year at the Benin Marina Hotel and mobilizes the members of the Steering Committee, political figures, technical and financial partners and the staff of the Executive Secretariat of OCAL.

The delegations present come from Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria and Benin, thus representing the 5 member countries of the Organization.

The 2017 statutory meeting of OCAL takes place in a specific institutional context. On June 4, 2017, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin, pioneer president of the OCAL Board of Directors died. An occasion to commemorate and pay tribute to an exceptional man who bequeathed a fine legacy in several respects to the ALCO.

In addition, the Country Steering Committee was enriched by the arrival of 6 new members to replace the old ones called to other occupations.

As for the global context of intervention of the OCAL, we note a scarcity of funding for the benefit of one of the key sectors that is HIV-AIDS. This is why one of the major points of discussion at this meeting will be the future of the Organization and the mobilization of resources to anchor the ALCO in the diversification of its interventions started in recent years.

Indeed, the OCAL is working for a holistic approach to the development of corridors taking into account all the needs of local and mobile populations on the Abidjan-Lagos axis.

To achieve this, OCAL plays an observatory role and collects data in the fields of health, transport, trade and road safety, which it makes available to States to help in decision-making. .
